The Crankshaft pulley on your Volvo, also known as a harmonic balancer, is a grooved pulley attached to the front of crankshaft that turns the belts to run the engine's accessory systems such as the A/C and power steering. This pulley is a two-piece pulley with an inner and outer portion attached together with a rubber dampener to absorb engine vibration from transferring to the engine accessories. Over time the rubber dampener holding the two pieces of the pulley together breaks down, and the inner pulley breaks away from the outer pulley. When this happens the outer pulley and accessory belts will not spin and can potentially come off the engine. The Corteco 30731045 crankshaft pulley is an original equipment replacement for the crankshaft pulley on the Volvo B5254T engines in the 1998-2016 C30, C70, S40, S60, V50, , V60, XC60, and XC70 models.
