The Volvo 4C active suspension on your Volvo S60R was one of the most revolutionary suspension systems of it's time. The Volvo 4C suspension standing for continuously controlled chassis concept does exactly that by monitoring various sensors around the vehicle to update the electronic shock absorbers 500 times a second and allowing the driver to select from both comfort and sport suspension settings. Being able to process information this quickly made the Volvo 4C suspension nearly predictive. Monitoring wheel speed, shock travel, steering wheel turn rate, yaw, engine torque, and brake pedal movement, the Volvo 4C is capable of adjusting shock stiffness to illuminate body roll, front end dive, and rear-end squat before your vehicle even starts to turn, brake, or accelerate. If one of the four electronic shocks in the Volvo 4C suspension fail, your Volvo will feel bouncy and unstable, and even a suspension error message will appear on your dash. The Monroe C1501S rear shock absorber is the original equipment left and right rear shock absorber used on the 2004-2007 Volvo S60R and V70R models with the 4C suspension and the recommended replacement rear shock if one on your Volvo shocks has failed.
