Your Volvo power steering pump is a hydraulic centrifugal vane pump that pressurizes steering fluid through fast rotations to produce a pressure differential that gives your car's steering system "power help." The steering pump is often mounted close to the engine of your car and is around the size of a coconut. Simply follow the engine belt if you're looking to locate the pump.
A power steering pump is a mechanical device and at times may suffer defects or failures. Car owners should examine all hoses, clamps, and fluids for irregularities on a regular basis. Do not try to repair a pump without first locating a power steering pump pulley puller. Using a normal pulley puller may cause the pulley to get out of round - not ideal!
