Mercedes is Actually a Spanish Woman’s Name

As many people know, Mercedes-Benz is a German car manufacturer. But, did you know that the “Mercedes” part of the brand name is of Spanish origin? To be exact, Mercedes-Benz was partly named after Australian diplomat and racing enthusiast Emil Jellinek’s daughter, Mercédès. Jellinek won many car racing championships in vehicles produced by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. The success brought the brand great press, and so Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft rewarded Jellinek by not only appointing him as a member of its Board of Directors but by using Mercedes in the new company name.

Perfuming Technology is Available in the Mercedes S-Class Model

If you’re tired of buying generic car air fresheners that last only a couple of weeks before they need replacement, Mercedes has a solution. The latest Mercedes S-Class model is available with optional “Active Perfuming” that you can use to adjust the smell of the car’s interior. Perfuming can be turned on or off, intensity can be high or low, and there are many fragrances to choose from.

Introduced One of the First Collision Avoidance Systems

The Pre-Safe system was pioneered by Mercedes-Benz in 2002, a time when collision avoidance systems were but a mere novelty. The Pre-Safe system would sense if a collision was about to occur, and prepared the vehicle’s occupants for impact by moving the car seats into better positions and tightening the seat belts. The Pre-Safe system is an excellent example of the brand contributing to public car safety long before anyone else had even thought of it.
