Camo-Free Spy Shots of the New VW Polo and Vento Are Circulating

Volkswagen has updated the look of its Polo and Vento on multiple occasions in the past, and the newest versions of these two models are expected to launch soon. Based on recent spy shots, which are the first photos taken of these vehicles without camo, the new look of these two will have some subtle but notable cosmetic changes, as well as some engine changes for the benefit of VW’s international market.

What’s new with the Polo?

The new hatchback will sport a honeycomb mesh grille, along with an updated spoiler. VW has also made some subtle changes to the tail lamps and rear bumper.

Although you can’t see the engine in the spy shots, the Polo will also feature some minor changes under the hood. It will have the same 1.0-liter engine, with 76 horsepower and 95Nm of peak torque, as well as a five-speed manual transmission. But it will be updated to comply with new emission standards (we’ll tell you more about these changes soon).

What’s new with the Vento?

The changes to the Vento won’t be radically different from the Polo’s updates. It will have sporty new side skirts and similar subtle interior cabin updates as well.

Impact on the International Market: Complying with BS6

The emission standards we referenced earlier are Bharat stage (BS6) Emission Standards, which were instituted by the Government of India as a means of regulating air pollution from motor vehicles and other internal combustion engines. All vehicles must comply by April 2020. That explains the new BS6-compliant 1.0-liter turbo engines in both of these vehicles.

However, this also means that VW will be discontinuing its 1.5-liter engine, which had been an option not only in the Polo and Vento, but was also used in the production of the VW Ameo and VW Rapid. Given the choice to either implement design changes or discontinue production, VW has opted for the latter. BS6 updates will likely lead to slight increases in prices for the Polo and Vento.
