Changing the Engine Oil in Your Mercedes R320
- Pull over to a level surface and allow the engine to cool.
- Collect tools and materials required: new oil, oil filter, oil filter wrench, socket wrench set, oil drip pan, and funnel.
- Open the hood and take off the oil filler cap to let air in.
- Raise the vehicle using a jack and support it using jack stands for safety.
- Position the oil catch pan under the oil pan drain plug.
- Remove the drain plug and loosen it using a socket wrench so that the old oil drains out completely.
- Put the drain plug back and tighten it securely after all the oil has drained out.
- Find the oil filter and loosen it using an oil filter wrench.
- Place a thin coat of new oil on the gasket of the new oil filter and install.
- Put in the new oil filter and tighten it by hand.
- Refill the engine with new oil via a funnel, consulting the owner's manual for the type and quantity required.
- Take a reading of the oil level using a dipstick and make sure it is the recommended level.
- Start the engine and run for a few minutes and look for leaks.
- Switch off the engine and recheck the oil level and top up if needed.
- Discard the filter and used oil according to local regulations.
