Based on industry averages you can expect to pay between $11.84 and $24.69 for a BMW E30 3-Series fuel filter.

The BMW E30 3-Series fuel filter is responsible for filtering out any impurities or debris in the fuel before it reaches the engine. This helps to ensure that the engine is getting clean fuel, which can improve performance and prevent damage to the fuel system. The fuel filter also helps to prolong the life of the fuel injectors, as it prevents them from becoming clogged with debris. Overall, the fuel filter plays an important role in keeping the engine running smoothly and efficiently.

Signs of a Clogged or Dirty BMW E30 3-Series Fuel Filter

  1. Rough engine idle: A clogged fuel filter can reduce the fuel flow to the engine, leading to a rough and uneven idle.
  2. Engine hesitation: A dirty fuel filter may cause the engine to hesitate or stall when accelerating, as there is insufficient fuel supply to meet the engine's demand.
  3. Engine misfires: A clogged fuel filter can cause the engine to misfire, resulting in a loss of power and poor performance.
  4. Reduced gas mileage: With a restricted fuel flow, the engine will have to work harder to get the required fuel, resulting in reduced gas mileage.
  5. Engine won't start: In extreme cases, a clogged fuel filter can prevent the engine from starting altogether.
  6. Fuel pump failure: If the fuel filter is excessively dirty or clogged, it can put additional strain on the fuel pump, which can lead to premature failure.
  7. Check engine light: A clogged fuel filter can trigger the check engine light to come on, indicating a problem with the fuel system.

BMW E30 3-Series Fuel Filter Replacement Interval

The BMW E30 3-Series fuel filter should be replaced every 30,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first. However, it is also recommended to inspect and replace the fuel filter if there are any signs of contamination or blockage.

Replacing the Fuel Filter on Your BMW E30 3-Series

  1. Pop the hood and locate the fuel filter. It's located on the driver's side, near the engine compartment firewall and has two hoses attached to it.
  2. Before getting started, you should relieve the fuel system pressure. This can be done by removing the fuel pump fuse or relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
  3. Use a flat-head screwdriver or pliers to loosen the clamps securing the hoses to the fuel filter. Pull the hoses off of the filter.
  4. Next, use a 17mm socket or wrench to remove the bolt holding the fuel filter bracket to the car body. Remove the bracket and set it aside.
  5. Remove the old fuel filter by pulling it out of the bracket.
  6. Install the new fuel filter into the bracket, making sure the arrow on the filter is pointing in the direction of fuel flow (toward the engine).
  7. Reinstall the bracket and tighten the bolt with the 17mm socket or wrench.
  8. Reconnect the hoses to the new fuel filter, making sure the clamps are tightened securely.
  9. Turn the ignition key to the "On" position for a few seconds to prime the fuel system. Then, start the engine and check for any fuel leaks.
  10. Finally, replace the fuel pump fuse or relay and close the hood.
