The BMW M235i (Model Code F22) is one of the early members of the BMW 2 Series line of compact coupes and convertibles. The M235i is a 2-door, 4-seater coupe that arrived at the North American International Motor Show in 2014, and later that same year graced the 13th Beijing Automotive Exhibition. Development started in November 2013, and the car went on sale in March the following year. Other early models slotting in the same category with 235i include the 220i and 220d. The BMW Motorsport unit has also built a racetrack version of the 2 Series called the M235i Racing, used exclusively in the Nurburgring Endurance Championship.
The BMW M235i shares the same body structure and features with the F20 1 Series range. Bavaria has since restructured various elements of the M235i with an aim to provide the sporting flavor of a real "M" car. The rewritten vehicle received the M Sport braking, M specific chassis and variable steering. The Super Sport Michelin Pilot tires and a locking differential also found their way into the overhauled BMW M235i coupe. Its closest rivals include the likes of Audi S3 2.0 TFSI Quattro and Porsche Cayman model S. The BMW M235i is inspired by a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo engine that outputs a maximum of 336-hp @ 5800 rpm and 369 pounds-feet of twisting force @ 1300 rpm. The engine mates a ubiquitous ZF 8-spd automatic gearbox system that enables the car to rocket to 60mph in 4.2 seconds, with a 155-mph limited top speed. EPA-estimated figures are recorded at 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
