The Beautiful History Behind Range Rover

Since the original Range Rover was introduced in 1970, the car has transformed into the world's most sumptuous SUV with superb off-road performance, design inspiration from the most unexpected of places, and technological innovations that distinguish it. The Musée du Louver in Paris displayed a Range Rover as an "exemplary piece of industrial design." We now look back at the history and how Range Rover came to be.

In the beginning Land Rover, the creator of the Range Rover, originated in 1885 as the Rover Company, which began as a bicycle manufacturer in Warwickshire, England. Six students set out from London in two Land Rovers on an epic journey into the unknown in 1955. The goal was Singapore, and the prize was immortality and a place in history. Tim Slessor, a student, describes how they drove two land rovers across the English Channel to Singapore. If they were successful, all six lads may get media recognition and sponsorships for finishing their expedition.

In terms of being distinct from this automobile and others, the business is developing more efficient aluminum body cars. Interestingly enough, the Range Rover was never intended to be a premium vehicle. In comparison to other SUVs, such as Jeep, the initial Range Rover was rather simple. Although more expensive than a Land Rover, it was created to be more practical than a status symbol. The second generation Range Rover was introduced in 1994, and it was at this time that BMW purchased the Rover Group, which included Land Rover and, later, Range Rover. As a result, the second generation Range Rover included the option of a BMW six-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The new model also had additional equipment and higher trims, signaling the beginning of Range Rover's foray into the more luxurious SUV market. This also put it ahead of the Land Rover Discovery in the burgeoning SUV sector.

The Range Rover, like other Land Rover vehicles, places a premium on adaptability and utility. They are all excellent picks with exceptional off-road capability and beautiful interiors. The Range Rover emphasizes elegance and refinement. Land Rovers are more universal (but still outstanding) utilitarian vehicles with more off-roading capabilities, whereas Range Rovers have more luxury components and are unlikely to be seen off-road. Land Rovers may be seen driving over mountains and along beaches, while Range Rovers can be seen parked in the city center. Land Rovers, on the other hand, provide opulent off-roading alternatives, whilst Range Rovers are more of a high-end city car.

To keep the prototype for the first-ever Range Rover a closely guarded secret, the designers and engineers behind this innovative new vehicle titled it 'Velar' and even fastened a badge of the same name to the first 26 prototypes to disguise its identity. Velar is a shortened form of the Italian word velare, which means to shroud or cover. Its exquisite appearance and perfect off-road and on-road performance make it very different from others. The Range Rover was such a unique model from 1970 until 1987, the Range Rover was only accessible in the United States via unauthorized gray market import channels. Because of its popularity as a result of these imports, official sales in the United States began on March 16, 1987.From that time until 1993, all marketing in the United States was centered on Range Rover, as it was the only model available in the country. With the introduction of the Defender 110 in 1993 and the anticipated arrival of the Land Rover Discovery, the company's sales in the United States were dubbed "Land Rover North America."

While this luxury vehicle undoubtedly leaves a beauty streak on the pavement there are several mechanical issues that can arise through expected wear and tear on the high end vehicle, these repairs could be costly to the consumer. A few major issues that will require frequent maintenance include power loss, ignition difficulties, air suspension, and leaks. A new Range Rover will typically last 150,000 to 200,000 miles if driven responsibly and maintained on a regular basis. With proper and prompt mechanical maintenance and the usage of the appropriate Range Rover replacement parts the consumer could anticipate a lifetime of longevity as the vehicle owner.
