VW radiator cap typically cost between $4.19 and $46.99.

The VW radiator cap is a little mechanical device that aids in managing the radiator's hot coolant's pressure. The radiator functions as a reservoir that cools the hot coolant before it is returned to the engine to cool it. A radiator cap maintains pressure in the cooling system, raising the boiling point. In a closed cooling system, you raise the boiling point by three degrees for every pound of pressure. Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit at sea level. The boiling point can be increased to 260 degrees by applying an additional 16 pounds of pressure to the system. This will prevent any coolant "boil off."

Coolant expands or rises in volume when it heats up, increasing the pressure inside the cooling system. The pressure spring contracts after the cooling system reaches the cap's recommended pressure, allowing coolant to flow into the reservoir tank. The cooling system is maintained at the proper operating pressure while allowing for coolant expansion.
