The average price of a VW starter relay is between $6.46 and $21.59.

One of the most important—and sometimes disregarded—parts of your VW ignition system is the VW starter relay. A small electrical component known as the starting relay is situated in the starting circuit of a large current motor. A high-current circuit's current is controlled by the relay, which is merely a remote-control switch. The car's starter relay closes the much more potent starter circuit with a modest amount of ignition switch electricity.

Similar to other mechanical and electronic parts of your car, the starter relay will start to malfunction before it completely fails. The starting solenoid and the motor should stop operating when the ignition switch is turned off. The engine won't start if the starter relay doesn't operate in this sequence. The major contacts are probably already joined together, in the closed position. If this occurs, the starter relay will become stuck in the on position, potentially harming the starter, circuit, relay, and drive flywheel if left unattended.
