The BMW 428i is one of the first generation models from Bavaria’s 4 Series line of entry-level luxury cars. It comes in various silhouettes consisting of the 2- door coupe (F32), 2-door convertible (F33), and 5-door hatchback (F36; available as 4 Series Gran Coupe). BMW released the F32/F33/F36 series in 2014 to substitute the F92/F93 coupe/convertible versions of the 5th generation 3 Series line. These models mirror the F30 3 Series and they initially incorporated turbocharged petrol and diesel drivetrains with three cylinders, four cylinders, and six cylinders. The Concept 4 Series Coupe was first revealed at the North American International Auto Show in March 2013. The BMW 428i convertible body style showed up for the first time as a concept in mid-2013 at the Tokyo Motor Show, and later that year greeted the Los Angeles Auto Show. Its official launch took place in January 2014 in Las Vegas. The AWD/xDrive variants were introduced a few months after international launch. The 428i Gran Coupe model arrived at the Geneva Motor Show, 13th Beijing Automotive Exhibition and New York International Auto Show in September 2014. Its development commenced in July 2014 in Munich.
The Gran Coupe model has a liftback rear and a C-pillar on the rear doors. Its cargo volume is about 1300 liters when the rear seats are folded down. It also comprises LED headlights, eight-speed automatic transmission, and a heads-up display. The incumbent 428i is a generously-proportioned vehicle that comes in 3 separate versions—Sport, Luxury and M Sport. Under its bulbous hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 generating 241-HP @ 5000rpm and 258-lb.ft @ 1250-4800rpm. The engine is mated to either a standard 6-spd manual or an optional 8-spd automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive is standard while AWD/xDrive is optional. It manages a 60-mph sprint in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph. The US EPA ratings are 22 mpg city, 34 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined.
