The BMW 440i package is BMW’s first generation series of entry-level luxury cars from the 4 Series lineup. It was rolled out in 2014 as the replacement for the E92 Series coupe and appears to mirror the F30 3 Series regarding design cues. The 440i series comes in many silhouettes, including the 2-door fastback coupe, 2-door convertible, and 5-door fastback. BMW started developing their F32 and F82 M4 coupes in July 2013 at their facility in Munich. Production of the F33 convertible began in November 2013 in Regensburg. The automaker built its 5-door fastback (codename F36 Gran Coupe) at their satellite factory in Dingolfing.
All the initial 440i models integrated the S55 turbocharged inline-six powertrain with both all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive setup. BMW refined and bolstered the BMW 440i package early this year, adding richness to its already stylish interior and exterior design. Under the hood of the latest incarnation of 440i is a choice of two turbocharged engines—a 2.0-liter 248-hp inline-four and a 3.0-liter 320-hp inline-six engine. Both drivetrains get furnished with either a six-speed manual shifter or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can also choose either rear-wheel-drive setup or all-wheeldrive configuration. The rear-wheel-drive 440i with the 8-speed automatic transmission scores a 4.3-second time to 60mph, and 166 mph is its limited top speed. It can compete with the Cadillac ATS, Infiniti Q60 Red Sport, and Lexus RC350F Sport.
Although most BMW 440i owners experience few catastrophic failures given its recent release, some of its major components will require monitoring.
