Many BMWs contain 2 batteries, the main battery, and the auxiliary battery. Your main BMW battery will last anywhere between 2-3 years whereas the auxiliary battery will last longer. The BMW auxiliary battery is the backup to the main battery and controls components like your GPS and electrical components on the radio. While your BMW won't start without the main BMW battery, it should start if the BMW auxiliary battery needs to be replaced. You may trigger a malfunction error on the main computer when the auxiliary battery isn't getting sufficiently charged. To replace either of your BMW batteries, make sure the vehicle is off and there isn't any electricity being delivered to either of the battery units. You may then disconnect the cable and leads from either of the batteries so you may remove them. There may be shipping restrictions on certain BMW batteries, so please read any special shipping instructions prior to placing your BMW battery order.
