Known the world over, the VW GTI was the original hot hatch and set the bar high in this new category. A fun to drive, affordable car, the GTI quickly developed a loyal following when introduced in the 1980’s. Initially there was not so much “hot” in this hatchback, powered by a modest 1.8L engine with just 8 valves. Its first boost of power came in the 1986 model year, when VW’s 16 valve engine was put in the GTI. This power boost led to the growth of the small car segment and offered a car that was both practical to use around town and fun to take on weekend drives. Of course this spawned the growth of the performance and modification parts market aimed at drivers who wanted a little more performance and handling.
As the GTI continued to grow and improve over the years it saw even more engine options offered in the 1990’s including the legendary VR6 engine as well as the TDI. The real performance version, known as the R32, was introduced in 2002 with the VR6 and AWD, for the ultimate factory performance GTI. Amazingly, the GTI is in its 8th generation today. What started as a simple compact car has grown into a near-luxury vehicle, featuring the latest in technology, safety and performance while keeping true to its humble roots. No matter your needs, from performance to repair, AutohausAZ is your destination for all your VW GTI parts needs.
