    The throttle body on your Volvo regulates air flow from the intake hose to the intake manifold base on demand from the driver. Attached to the intake manifold, the throttle body opens an internal butterfly valve to increase air flow to the engine during acceleration, partially closes the valve to maintain engine speed, and completely closing the valve to decelerate the engine to slow the vehicle. Failure of the throttle housing may result in no throttle response, high idle, surging idle and the engine to lose power during acceleration.
