  • The secondary air injection pump on your Mercedes or Mercedes Sprinter is a secondary emissions control device to reduce your vehicle’s tailpipe emissions below federal and state vehicle emissions standards.
  • The pump operates by pumping fresh air into the exhaust system. This fresh air allows for unspent and partially burnt fuel to oxidize and completely burn up, reducing the number of hydrocarbons that must be processed by the catalytic converter and thus reducing the overall emissions of the vehicle.
  • Failure of the secondary air pump on your Mercedes will cause the vehicle’s emissions to increase, cause the check engine light to illuminate with and log a P0410 error code, and ultimately cause your Mercedes to fail emissions at registration.
