Every time you turn on your Volvo and before the engine starts, the in-tank fuel pump pressurized the fuel injection system by pumping fuel from the tank to the engine, ensuring when the starter turns the engine over and the spark is delivered to the cylinder, your Volvo’s engine fires right away. The in-tank fuel pump used on your Volvo is also equipped with the fuel tank level sensor that relays the fuel level in the tank to the gauge on your dash. If the fuel pump fails, no fuel will be delivered to the engine, and if the fuel level sensor fails, you won’t know how much fuel you have and could very well run out of gas. If either of these instances were to happened, the in-tank fuel pump assembly with level sensor must be replaced.
