  • The intake manifold used on the Mercedes M273 V8 engine delivers air to the engine for the purpose of combustion.
  • Runners inside the intake manifold are used to maximize engine performance at higher RPMs and fuel economy at lower RPMs. Vacuum operated flaps switch air flow through the runners based on engine demand.
  • Contaminants from the crankcase ventilation system on the Mercedes M273 V8 engine collect on the intake manifold runner flaps, making them increasingly difficult to move until eventually the rod moving the flaps break, and stick the flaps in one position.
