The gasoline direct injection engines used by Volkswagen and Audi produce more power, have improved tailpipe emissions, and get more miles per gallon than conventional fuel injected engines that came before them. This is accomplished by pressurizing the fuel to the point it is fully atomized before delivering it to each cylinder. Previous fuel injections used a single fuel pump that pumps fuel from the tank to the injection rail where the fuel is pressurized to about 60 psi to enter the cylinders and requires engine compression to atomize the fuel to be burned. Gasoline direct injection engines use two fuel pumps. 1 pumps the fuel from the tank to the engine, and 1 high pressure mechanical pump on the engine that can create about 2000psi, atomizes the fuel prior to entering the cylinder. This atomized fuel mixes better with air in the cylinder and burns more completely, allowing less fuel to be needed to create more engine power. If the direct injection high pressure fuel pump fails, the engine will still run using the fuel pressure created by the fuel tank pump. However, the engine will be hard to start, lack power, get poor gas mileage, and even stutter or stall. This Bosch direct injection high pressure fuel pump is an original equipment direct replacement pump for the CBFA and CCTA GDI engines found in the 2008-2013 A3, 2015-2016 Q3, and 2009 TT model Audis, and 2012-2013 Beetle, 2009-2016 CC, 2009-2016 Eos, 2010-2014 GTI, 2008-2013 Jetta, 2008-2010 Passat, and 2009-2018 Tiguan model Volkswagens.
