The alternator on your Volvo XC90 with the 3.2L B6324S engine is run by a gear on the engine’s rear end accessory drive (R.E.A.D.) via a sprocket on the back of the timing cover. To connect and sync the R.E.A.D. sprocket to the sprocket on the alternator decoupler pulley is a small rubber toothed belt. Like any other rubber engine belt, time and heat from the engine degrades the belt, causing it to stretch and crack. Unlike other engine belts, the alternator decoupler belt cannot be tightened, and if it stretches, the belt will jump the teeth on the R.E.A.D. or alternator decoupler sprocket causing the alternator to not turn fast enough to produce the electricity you need to power your Volvo XC90. The Gates EG2 alternator decoupler hub coupling rubber belt is the original equipment alternator decoupler hub coupling rubber belt for the Volvo B6324S and B6304T L6 engines found in the S60, S80, V60, V70, XC60, XC70, and XC90 models from 2006-2016 and the recommended replacement EG2 alternator decoupler hub coupling rubber belt for your Volvo XC90.
