  • A ball joint is a ball and cup joint, typically found on automotive suspensions and usually greased to allow the ball to easily twist, turn, and pivot inside the cup.
  • The lower ball joints on your 2001-2008 S60, 1999-2006 S80, 2001-2005 V70, and 2003-2007 XC70 model Volvo are responsible for supporting the weight of the vehicle while allowing the steering knuckle to pivot when turning the front wheels. Over time, the boots on the joint can deteriorate and allow grease to leak away from the joint. This lack of grease causes the joint to dry out and the ball and cup wear leading to noise and eventually the ball and socket coupling to break.
