The air bag clocksrping on your Volvo is the rotating electrical connection in your Volvo’s steering column that allows the horn, steering wheel controls, and air bag to function without wires getting tangled every time you turn the steering wheel. Conductive pins ride along conductive wheels, maintaining an electrical connection for the horn, steering wheel controls, and air bag circuits as the steering turns, much like a stylus riding on the grooves of a vinyl record. If the conductive pins or wheel corrode, gaps between the two create open circuits conditions in the clockspring and the steering wheel control and air driver’s air bag will not work.
