Fans Rejoice: Return of the Supra

It’s the comeback of the century. The Toyota Supra is on its way to production for a 2020 release thanks to the help of BMW, and race car lovers are rejoicing. If it’s anything like its predecessor, it will be a thrill to drive and will get any driver’s adrenaline pumping!

Over 25 years of technical, mechanical, and style innovation has also made the new Toyota Supra even more mind-blowing than it was in the past. In fact, it’s a speed demon that’s meant to own the road!

Here are a few cool facts about the new MkV Supra.

Show Me The Money! The first MkV Supra sold at auction at Barrett-Jackson for a whopping $2.1 million. The proceeds went to charity, but that’s an enormous amount of cash to drop for a car that otherwise costs under $60,000.

Catch My Drift. The new Supra is a drifting machine. With a front-engine and rear-wheel drive, the MkV can drift like there’s no tomorrow. Fredric Aasbo, a renowned pro drifter, even got to show off his skills in the vehicle for some spectacular sideways abilities.

BMW Collaboration. Back in 2012, Toyota and BMW first announced their alliance to work together on lithium-ion batteries, engines, and the rear-wheel drive sports-car platform found in the MkV. Similar to the BMW Z4, the Supra shares its stellar rear-wheel drive capabilities. However, the BMW Z4 will only be available in a roadster, whereas the Supra is a coupe.

Nürburgring Testing: The new Toyota Supra was developed at Germany’s famous Nürburgring racetrack. Long known as the proving ground for high-performance vehicles, Toyota proves the commitment to creating a true driver’s dream car that’s quick as a flash.

Made in Austria. Famous contract manufacturer Magna Steyr, which is best known for building the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, has earned the privilege of building the new Toyota Supra MkV in its Austrian home. Side note, the BMW Z4 is set to be made in the same spot.

Value Added. Toyota announced the new Supra will set buyers’ back approximately $50,000 for the 3.0-liter inline-six powered model. The four-cylinder version will likely cost less but still pack a punch on the road. Not bad for a top-of-the-line racing gem.
