Denso Auto Parts
Denso started as Nippon Electrical Equipments Co., a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Co. that split off as its own separate entity becoming NIPPONDENSO Co., manufacturing generators and other electrical parts for the Japanese automotive and industrial markets. In 1955 NIPPONDENSO expanded introducing injection pumps, powertrains, thermal systems, driving controls and safety systems to provide their customers with entire systems rather than just single parts. In 1965 NIPPONDENSO sold its first products in the US, starter-generators for chainsaws, and in 1966 opened its first US sales office securing a contract to supply Ford Motor Co. with alternators. In 1968 NIPPONDENSO began the development of integrated circuits for the electronic control of automotive components, furthering the technological advancements of automotive safety systems. NIPPONDENSO’s success led to the opening of their first overseas manufacturing plants in Australia and Thailand in 1972. In 1984 NIPPONDENSO opened its first US manufacturing plant in Battle Creek, Michigan and testing facility in Nukata, Japan, complete with a test track to ensure product performance and quality to exceed their customer’s demand. In 1991 NIPPONDENSO began research and development of semiconductors and microalgae, in 1993 NIPPONDENSO opened a state-of-the-art climatic wind tunnel for US auto manufacturers to test NIPPONDENSO original equipment products, and in 1996 removed Nippon (the Japanese word for Japan) from its name, establishing Denso as a truly global company. In 1998 Denso introduced MovinCool portable AC units and in 1998 Denso produced its 10 millionth instrument cluster. In the 2000’s and on Denso developed the gasoline direct injection system allowing high pressure fuel to be directly introduced in the combustion chamber increasing engine horsepower and decreasing engine emissions, the COA HVAC unit for automotive air conditioning, and created DENSO ECO VISION and action plan to tackle issues that impact the environment and energy usage.
Today Denso is the second largest automotive parts manufacturer in the world with a focus on the development of electrification, advanced safety, and automation, connected driving, and factory automation to influence the future of mobility. Employing nearly 170,000 people in 35 countries, Denso is crafting the core and positively changing how the world moves.
