  • The Continental 5WK96132Z mass air flow sensor is an original equipment replacement mass air flow sensor for the 2001-2003 BMW M54 engines in the 330i, 530i, and Z3 models and 2001-2006 M54 engines in the X5.
  • The mass air flow sensor on your BMW works by having an internal exposed wire that gets cooled when air flows into the intake. The sensor increases current flow through the wire attempting to keep the temperature of the wire constant, and the amount of current required to calculate how much air is flowing into the engine.
  • If there is an electrical failure of the sensor or if contaminants in the air flowing through the sensor collect on the heated wire, the sensor will not be able to accurately determine the volume of air entering the engine. This will cause your BMW to lose power and consume excess fuel.
