The Mercedes W126 sedans and coupes are probably the most iconic models of Mercedes ever produced. Manufactured from 1979 through 1991, the W126 styling set Mercedes apart from all other luxury car manufacturers. With its more refined rounded corners and classic Mercedes grille and hood ornament, the W126 Mercedes became a status symbol worldwide. Armored models were even produced for heads of state, presidents, kings, and even the Pope. Aside from the styling the superior ride quality and handling of the Mercedes W126 rivaled that of Rolls Royce. In order to achieve such an elegant ride quality, extra-large heavy duty front shock absorbers were used to support the weight of the front end and dampen all road conditions to feel as if gliding along on a cloud.
