The BMW XDrive all-wheel drive system utilizes an electronically actuated transfer case that uses drive shafts to distribute power between the front and rear differentials which vary torque to each wheel through axle shafts giving your optimum traction and stability on all road conditions. Each axles shaft consists of two grease filled constant velocity (CV) joints protected by rubber boots, one located at the wheel, and one located at the differential, connected to each other by a metal driver shaft. Ove rtime the boots that cover the CV joints dry up and crack allowing the grease to leave the joints, and the joints to dry out bind and fail. When this happens on one of the front axle shafts, an audible clicking sound will be heard when turning. This indicates the CV joints are dried out, beginning to bind, and the axle shaft needs to be replaced ASAP. This GKN Loebro front left axle shaft is an original equipment replacement axle shaft for your 2012-2016 528i, 2014-2016 535d, 2011-2016 535i, 2011-2016 550i, 2014-2019 640i, 2012-2019 650i, and 2015-2019 Alpina B6 model BMWs with the XDrive all-wheel drive system.
