History of Pagid

Founded in 1950, Pagid quickly made a name for itself producing brake pads for premium Euro automobiles. In 1960 the first Ford and Volkswagen passenger cars rolled off European assembly lines equipped with Pagid disc brake pads. In the 1970s, auto manufacturers like Porsche, Mercedes, and Audi began using these brake pads in their factories, Pagid developed the world’s first asbestos free brake friction material, and they fitted VW brakes with their first semi-metallic disc brake pads. The 1980’s brought even more success to the brand as the became the preferred brake friction supplier for European auto manufacturers. Production went international in the 1990’s, Pagid opened plants in Italy, Mexico, Brazil, France, and the UK, they also developed the first ever ceramic brake pads which came standard on the Porsche 911 starting in 2000. In 2001 they was acquired by TMD Friction, this allowed Pagid to modernize manufacturing, introduce small series production for high performance auto manufacturers, and create the Pagid Racing division. Nisshinbo Holdings acquired TMD friction in 2011 making Pagid part of the world’s largest supplier of automotive friction material. They were manufacturing and held R&D facilities in 12 countries with over 5,000 employees. Pagid introduced the first ever Titanium disc brake pad in 2013 for the Porsche 918 Spyder. In 2016, Pagid entered the electric car market developing brake systems for BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen, and Hyundai hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and plug-in fully electric vehicles.
