The Mini Paceman is a 3-door subcompact crossover SUV built by Mini. The Paceman shares the same genes as the Countryman, except for some slight differences here and there. In the autumn of 2011, Mini introduced the Paceman in concept form at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. In September 2012, the production model was confirmed to have arrived at dealerships globally. The Mini Paceman was assembled alongside the Countryman in Graz, Austria under contract by Magna Steyr. The Paceman and Countryman share the same powertrain, vehicle length, and the standard all-wheel-drive/ALL4 system. Like its Countryman cousin, the Paceman is available in entry-level S and top-tier John Cooper Works (JCW) variants. Aside from the extra power, the Mini Paceman JWC version adds 18- inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, and an aerodynamic body kit.
The Mini Paceman received minor tweaks in 2017, and now the car features updated infotainment system and all seats have leather upholstery as standard. Other standard interior elements in the updated Paceman include the auxiliary audio jack, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control, color-adjustable ambient interior lighting, and Bluetooth/USB compatibility. The latest Paceman is equipped with a choice of two engines—a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder motor and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 1st engine is capable of 181 horsepower and 177-lb.ft of torque, whilst the 2nd option can yield a maximum of 208 horsepower and 192-lb.ft of torque. Both engines receive either a standard 6-spd manual shifter or an optional 6-spd automatic. The 6-spd automatic gearbox and AWD/ALL4 system are optional. Official EPA-estimated figures for the manual option are quoted at 26/32/29 mpg while for the automatic option are 23/30/26 mpg. Its main competitors include the Fiat 500 X, Mazda CX-5, and Mazda CX-3.
